About Bark EUROPA
Bark EUROPA was built in 1911 on the Stulcken wharf in Hamburg, Germany. She was first named as ‘Senator Brockes’ and built to serve as a light ship on the German river Elbe. Called ‘Elbe 3’ she indeed served as a light ship. In 1986 the ship was brought to the Netherlands and in eight years’ time completely re-rigged as a three masted barque and renovated as the ship she now is. Inside the ship all cabins were modelled and the galley and common areas were established.
Bark EUROPA is an official sail training vessel. As such the guests are mustered as trainees and joining the activities on deck as part of their voyage. Since 2000, Bark EUROPA has been crossing oceans and seas on a regular basis and has the reputation of a ship that really sails. Her voyages brings the crew and voyage crew to remote islands and cities all over the world. She follows the favourable winds of traditional sailing routes, which has brought her to all continents, sailing the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, earning her nickname Ocean Wanderer.
In the Southern Summer, EUROPA conducts expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsula, visiting the extraordinary white continent and its inhabitants. In the Northern Summer, EUROPA participates in Tall Ship Races, the largest international ocean races of sail training ships in the world.

The Friends of Bark EUROPA is a foundation that offers youngsters who could really use some time from home, the opportunity to sail a lifechanging voyage on board EUROPA. In addition the Foundation helps to fund the maintenance of the old lady EUROPA.
